Treating Murder

Story Rating – 3
Editorial Rating – 2 (for style, not typos)
Dr. Veronica Lane is losing a patient, one that has been
with her from the time she started her practice. The patient has MS and is
losing ground. Quickly. Dr. Lane is having a hard time separating herself
emotionally from one of her “children,” the patient who goes back the furthest
with her. When the patient dies, the insurance company tries to lay the blame
at her feet, but what starts as a whisper of malpractice turns into a charge
for murder.
The story follows Dr. Lane’s progression from respected
physician, to accused murderer. Her character is well laid out as one who looks
after strays. The author gives the reader a wide array of suspects to choose from
and cleverly keeps you guessing all the way until the end. The story is there, but I struggled to keep my
editorial self at bay, and that detracted from the reading experience for me.
It was “worth the read” on my rating scale.
